Maths - Heavier or Lighter

Our new topic in maths is mass and volume. Our first lesson involved weighing different classroom objects with scales and seeing which ones were heavier or lighter.

Maths - Counting in 5's

Enter text...

To help us count in multiples of 5, Miss Richardson planned lots of practical activities. One of them involved each of us having a number and having to find the corresponding picture which matches. We had to count in our 5's to find this. We repeated this multiple times and it really helped us!

Music-To listen and appraise the song 'Lifted' by The Lighthouse Family.

This term our music unit is to listen and appraise songs by local artists The Lighthouse Family. After listening to the song ‘Lifted’ we discussed the questions...How does the song make you feel? Do you like/not like the song and why? What does the song make you think of? What can you hear? We were able to remember some musical language from our previous music lessons and find the pulse by moving our bodies in different ways.

Well done Year 1!

Music-To listen and appraise the song 'High' by The Lighthouse Family.

We listened and appraised our final song ‘High’ by  local artists The Lighthouse Family. After listening to the song we discussed the questions...How does the song make you feel? Do you like/not like the song and why? What does the song make you think of? What can you hear? We were able to remember some musical language from our previous music lessons and find the pulse by moving our bodies in different ways. Finally we performed the chorus to our favourite Lighthouse Family song...Lifted Well done Year 1!

Aspirations Week - Litter Picking

Another activity we took part in for aspirations week was litter picking. Year 1 and Year 2 went out in 3 groups and helped pick up litter around Blackfell. In total, we collected 17 bags of rubbish! We had lots of fun whilst helping look after our local community!

Art - Andy Goldsworthy

In art this term, we are looking at the artist Andy Goldsworthy. In this lesson, we recreated one of his pieces of artwork. We sketched the spiral stones, painted the sand background, the spirals and stones.

King Charles III Coronation Celebrations

To celebrate the Kings Coronation, we came into school wearing red, white and blue, had a raffle and a Coronation style lunch. In class, Miss Richardson told us about King Charles, how we became King and what duties he has. We then finger painted the Union Jack flag. We had lots of fun!

Music-To listen and appraise the song 'Ocean Drive' by The Lighthouse Family.

We listened and appraised the song ‘Ocean Drive’ by local artists The Lighthouse Family. After listening to the song ‘Ocean Drive’ we discussed the questions...How does the song make you feel? Do you like/not like the song and why? What does the song make you think of? What can you hear? Finally we discussed the similarities in both songs. We were able to remember some musical language from our previous music lessons and find the pulse by moving our bodies in different ways.

Well done Year 1!

RE-What do Jewish and non-religious people believe about caring for people?

We discussed what Jewish people believe about caring for people. We learnt that they believe in forgiveness and like to give people a chance to say sorry and put their mistakes right. They also read the Torah to learn valuable lessons from God, give to charity and light candles to remember people who have died. They also give up food called ‘fasting’ and children give up a favourite toy or something they like to do for a day to spend time with family at the Synagogue.

Next we learnt that some people don’t have religious beliefs but still believe that all people are valuable and unique. We thought about what makes us unique and used a body outline to draw or write everything that makes us who we are. We played ‘guess who’ to see if we could identify the person from the things that made them unique. Well done Year 1!

Aspiration Week - Care Home Visit

As our theme for aspirations week was 'care in the community', we decided we would like to bring some cheer to some of the older people in our community. We visited Holly House Care Home, where we delivered the cheerful pictures which we painted and sang 3 songs to the residents at the care home. After, we had biscuits and juice and had a chat with some of the residents who really enjoyed our visit!

Science - Senses Walk

Our topic this term in science is animals including humans. This lesson was all about our senses and what we can do with them. We went on a senses walk around school and wrote down what we could see, hear, smell, taste and touch.

RE-What is the importance of rest?

In this lesson we discussed the importance of rest. We were able to retell the story of the creation and why God needed to rest of the 7th day. We listened to a piece of music called ‘Short ride in a fast machine’ by John Adams. We moved around the classroom pretending to do our day to day jobs really quickly without stopping for a rest. We discussed how the music and not stopping for a rest made us feel. Next we listened to a relaxing piece of music with images of the ocean. We compared how both pieces of music made us feel and we realised we felt very different this time. Finally we discussed what might happen to our bodies and mind if we did not rest.

Well done Year1!

Sports Day!

We thorougly enjoyed taking part in sports day. The sun was shining and we all had great fun doing the egg and spoon race, sack race, long jump, running and obstacle course. Well done to Oak who were the winners!

Aspirations Week - Fireman

To begin our aspirations week, we had a visit from a fireman and his fire engine. He spoke about the different ways he keeps people safe in his job,  such as saving people from a fire or rescuing animals.  He then showed us the clothing they wear to stay safe and Miss Richardson tried it on! After that, we all got to spray the hose, which was really powerful, and sit in the fire engine!

DT - Teddy Bears Picnic

To start the lesson, we discussed as a class how we would stay safe during the lesson as we were using sharp items. We came up with things like ‘keeping knives on the table’ and ‘don’t walk round with skewers as they are sharp’. We then talked through how to use a knife safely and how to slide our food onto a skewer safely too. After this, we washed our hands to get rid of any germs and then followed our design to make our skewer. Unfortunately, it was raining outside so we had our teddy bears picnic inside, but we still had great fun and thought our skewers were yummy!

Blackfell Scramble

Thanks to the Year 6's, we got to take part in the Blackfell scramble. This was a large obstacle course around the field , which involed activities such as climbing over and, jumping through hoops and scoring goals. The last event was a long slip and slide down the hill, which ended with an ice pop. We had lots of fun and got very wet!
