Art-Giuseppe Arcimboldo
This term we are finding out about the work of the famous artist Giuseppe Arcimboldo. First we looked at his self portrait and discussed the questions... How does his choice of colour make you feel? What might it tell you about him? We found out lots of information about him and answered questions to create a fact file. Next we created our own self portrait in the style of Giuseppe Arcimboldo using lines and shading. We chose one colour to represent our mood and used it to add shade to the background of our self portraits.
Take a look at our self portraits!
Excellent art work Year 2!
Art- Elements
We worked in pairs to recreate one of Arcimboldo’s four paintings of the elements: fire, water, air and earth. We selected and cut out images for our chosen element and carefully considered which images would best represent facial features. Finally we explained our choices. Look at our fantastic representation of our chosen element!

Families!
In P.S.H.E we looked at different types of families. Each group were given a family to discuss. We then wrote about similarities and differences in comparison to our families. Finally we created a photo frame using lolly sticks and decorated them using craft materials. We drew a picture of our family and wrote a message inside the card. Some lovely messages to your families Year 2!

We have been visited by a fire fighter. We told us all about his fire engine and let us try out the hose and sit inside. He told us how hard his job can be but how rewarding it is to help people!
Visiting Holly House Care Home
Year 1 and 2 thoroughly enjoyed their visit to Holly House Care Home where we sang and gave the residents paintings we had made for them. The residents loved our songs and even joined in at parts! Thank you for our juice and biscuits too!
Mini Beast Hunt
In Science, we are learning about Living Things and Habitats. We went on a minibeast hunt around different areas in school. We will be using this to write a recount in Literacy too. We talked about different verbs (what we did) and what we saw (nouns). We found caterpillars, butterflies, worms and lots of ants! We had lots of fun!
Archery and Curling
We absolutely loved trying out some new sports as part of our Healthy and Fitness week in school. Stacey showed us how to curl and use the bow in archery.
Learn To Ride
Year 2 had a fantastic time learning to ride their bikes with Ross and Marcus. We first had to make sure our bikes were safe and we then moved on to finding our balance. Once we were able to balance and pedal we had some different challenges to complete likes weaving in and out of the cones. We had a great time, thank you Ross and Marcus.
Keep Washington Tidy
Today we were joined by Keep Washington Tidy. We found out about the work they do and how important it is to keep our local area tidy. We then got stuck in and helped to litter pick in the area.
DT- Perfect Pizzas
Today we were so excited to finally make our pizzas based on our designs. Before making our pizzas we looked at our designs so we could create our pizzas exactly as we planned them. We followed the rules of hygiene and made sure we were working safely within our setting. We cleaned our work surfaces, tied back long hair, washed our hands and made sure we did not walk around with cutting implements. First, we used the back of a spoon to spread the tomato base over our pizza base. Next we selected our ingredients and chopped, sliced and shred them onto our pizza base closely following our plans. Finally we added some cheese. We then went to the breakfast room with Miss Brooks in groups to cook our pizzas. We then took our delicious looking pizzas back to the classroom. We enjoyed eating them whilst watching a film. Everyone created their pizza to their personal taste. They all looked delicious! We thoroughly enjoyed the whole process of designing, creating and especially the eating part of making our own pizzas. We will evaluate our pizzas and answer questions like… Did they taste nice? Did we follow our designs? What would we change next time?
Well done Year 2! What great little pizza chefs you are! Look at our perfect pizzas!
