Being a Good Friend

Welcome Back Year 3! What a fantastic start to our new school year. We have been talking about being a good friend and how it is fine to have different hobbies and interests.

Outdoor Learning

Year 3 have enjoyed a fantastic morning outdoor learning. They took part in a night line challenge, den building, flag pole raising and tune and ball challenge. Year 3 worked as an excellent team and completed all the challenges. Fab work Year 3.

Soil Investigating

We have been investigating different types of soils found around school. We look at each samples texture, appearance, colour and moisture. I was interesting to see the different types of soil around our school.

Year 3 go Yellow!

Don't we all look fab in our yellow! we even had a trip from our very own banana!

Book Fair

The Book Fair is in school this week and we have enjoyed exploring all of the exciting books.

Erosion

As part of our science learning we have been looking at erosion. We have been looking at the best rock that would make a kitchen bench. We looked at different rocks and their properties and planned our investigation. We rubbed the rocks with sandpaper two thousand times and then measure the rock dust that came off the. It turns out chalk is not the best rock for a bench but marble and flint would be very good

Harvest

Year 3 have enjoyed a morning learning about the meaning of harvest. We looked at how we celebrate in this country and others. We then thought about the people who harvest the crops and then what we are thankful for. We ended our learning singing a harvest song. 

Mary Anning

Today we have been learning about Mary Anning and why she is famous in the science world. She was one of the first women to find a fossil of prehistoric animal. We enjoyed learning about her early life and how she became famous. We all want to go fossil hunting!

Mechanism Dancing

As part of our P.E we have been learning about dance, moving to the beat and creating our own movements. We are creating a dance where we are mechanisms and moving to the beat of four. We are really excited about our dance unit and developing our dance further.

Christmas Jumper Day

Year 3 all look fantastic in their Christmas jumpers today. we have enjoyed fun activities and had a lovely film afternoon with treats and drinks.

Let's Party!

Year 3 and 4 had a fantastic afternoon at their Christmas Party! They danced together, played games and sang karaoke. They even had a special visit from the Blackfell Elf and Santa himself!

SHHHH!

Year 3 enjoyed their first visit to Key Stage 2 Library. They enjoyed looking at all of the different texts. They got to take a book and home.

Man Made or Natural

As part of our Science topic on Rocks and Soil we have been looking at natural and man made rocks. We learnt that the Romans were the first to make cement. We then went on a hunt around school to find different sources of natural and man made rocks.

Young Minds

#Helloyellow

Across school we celebrated and raised funds for Young Minds, a mental health charity for young people. Lots of activities and lessons were held throughout the day. Take a look at all of fun activities we have got up to!

Cheese! We enjoyed taking part in the photobooth with our friends.  We had great fun!

Rubbings Exploration

As part of our art topic we have been looking at different sculptures. We are preparing to create our own sculptures. We have been exploring our environment looking for different textures for our final design.

Yasmin and Tom

We have been reintroduced to Yasmin and Tom this week for our RSE learning. We learnt about their families, what they liked and why they are friends. We then made a promise as a class: 

  1. take care with sharing personal information about yourself or others;
  2. keep confidentiality, but remember adults cannot offer complete confidentiality;
  3. laugh with others, not at others;
  4. it’s OK to make mistakes;
  5. listen to each other;
  6. everybody has the right to express their opinion and we support each other to do this;
  7. we have the right to pass;
  8. be respectful of our differences.

We even created our own Yasmin and Tom characters. 

 

Stonehenge

For our history learning we have been researching about Stonehenge. We were shocked to learn how far the stones had travelled during the Neolithic age!

Fable Drama

Today in our literacy lesson we have been looking at different fables and their morals. We worked in small groups and created a performance of our   fable. Then as a class watched our friends performance and discussed the moral of the fable.

 

Anti-Bullying Week 2021

One Kind Word

Odd Socks

We began our learning on Anti-Bullying week by celebrating Odd Socks Day. This celebrates the fact everybody is different and special. We then created our own personalised odd sock.

Let's Do Lunch!

Year 3 have enjoyed a delicious Christmas Lunch today. It was lovely to share this time together. 

All About Me

We have been enjoying spending time in our new class. We have been sharing some information all about to to our friends, Miss Hepplewhite and Miss Hough. We created some fantastic all about me hearts.

Bonjour

Today in French we have been learning how to say hello and introduce ourselves to friends. We began our lesson by learning a catchy song and then practised with our friends saying hello and introducing ourselves.

 

Yellow Fruit

While taking part in our fun activities we enjoyed trying different yellow fruits. The pineapple was very popular.

Soothe Yourself

As a class we have made a soothe box for when we are feeling unhappy. We each have our name on the box along with a positive comment to help us. Then we added some personal items and created our own happy picture to look at when we feel sad. We all worked together as a team and created a fantastic soothe box!

Instructions

Today in literacy we have continued to look at the features of an instruction test.  We began by discussing the different features and discussed their purpose. We then were    given some instructions that had been missed up. We ordered them and then we annotated the different features we could see.

 

RSE

Today we were visited by Together For Children, we talked through some discussion cards about how people were feelings and how we could help. We talked about families and what we need in them. Then we talked about what made us happy and made some lovely happy pictures. 

Base 10

Today in maths we have been using the base 10 to help us calculate subtracting crossing 10. We now are able to exchange one ten for ten ones to help us. We enjoyed using the base 10.

Year 3 visit The Sill

Year 3 enjoyed a fantastic visit to The Sill in Northumberland. They have been learning about The Stone Age in their history learning. On their visit they met a real life Stone Age Man. He told Year 3 all about Stone Age life. They learnt some interesting facts. Did you know that Stone Age people used nettles to make rope they then used the rope to make nets to catch animals. It is believed that is why they call nets nets! Year 3 had a fantastic day and enjoyed learning more about The Stone Age!

 

Kind and Unkind

We have been looking at the difference  being kind and unkind. We discussed different ideas of how we can be kind. We then look at some different pictures and talked about if we thought they were showing kindness or not.

The Big Sing

Along with the rest of the school, Year 3 enjoyed taking part in a virtual Christmas concert with schools across Sunderland. They sand some tradition and modern carols with their friends. It was a great concert! Well done Year 3!
