Year 3 Summer 2020-21
Angle Finders!
We have been enjoying our learning on shapes and angles. We created our own right angle finders and went on a hunt both inside and outside of our classroom. Turns out there are lots of right angles about!
Beebot Maths
As part of our maths learning this week, we have been looking at turning clockwise and anti clockwise. We used the bebots to help us with our learning. We programmed them to start at different parts of the compass and take different turns both clockwise and anti clockwise.
Year 3 and Testament
You may remember, in Autumn term, Year 3 won a competition from the Beat It, Germfest. They created a fantastic display with all of their learning. On Friday they received their prize. They had a workshop with Guinness World Record holder Testament. He impressed us with his amazing skills. In small groups we learnt how to create our own rap around different genres. These included; antibiotics, NHS, washing your hands and keeping healthy. All of the children had a fantastic afternoon. Thank you Testament!
Outdoor Learning
We had a fantastic time with our outdoor learning on Thursday. We enjoyed a variety of activities that included archery, team work games and building our own dens. We enjoyed working with our friends and some of us even created sparks and a fire! What a fantastic day!
Exploring Partition
In our maths learning we have been exploring partitioning three digit numbers in standard and non standard ways. We have enjoyed using the base 10 to support us!
Be safe, Be Fit, Be Healthy
Change for Life
We have been working with Brian and Anth from Sunderland's Change for Life today. They spoke to us about how we can keep our bodies healthy. We then took part in some different exercise activities. I think our favourite was dodgeball and the exercise challenges.
Ground Works Week 1
Ground Works have been working with some of the children of year 3 this week. They have created a fantastic strawberry planter. Each week a small group of children will be working on a different fruit or vegetable.
GOAL!!!!
Year 3 enjoyed taking part in a football competition. They played against each other in their house teams. It was great to see them all working together. There was some fantastic goals. Well done year 3!
Green Fingers
As part of our school council making friendship gardens we have been getting our fingers in the mud. As the weather is getting nicer, we have been outdoors and planting some plants that have been donated kindly by parents.
Magnetic and Non Magnetic
As part of our Science topic on forces, we have been learning about magnetic and non magnetic materials. We enjoyed exploring our classroom for magnetic and non magnetic materials.
Colour Mixing Pointillism
In our art learning we have been learning about the technique of pointillism. This is creating a picture using dots. Today we have been learning to colour mix using pointillism using the primary colours. We were amazed at the colours we created!
French Instruction
In our French learning we have been learning all about French instructions for in the classroom. We enjoyed adding actions to the words and creating some posters.
Magnetic Games
In our science learning we have been looking at magnets and how they work. We then created our own fishing and maze games. We had great fun creating our games.
Archery
Year 3 enjoyed a fantastic archery lesson with Mr Taylor. They learnt how to set up the bow and arrow, aim and release the bow. They then practised and played some games. Year 3 enjoyed their archery lesson and are looking forward to trying it again.
GOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAALLLLLL!
Year 3 have enjoyed taking part in a penalty shoot out. It was great fun to see how fast we could get the ball to move. Keep an eye our for the winning boy and girl!
Fly Away
The time has finally come to release our butterflies. We have been caring for them over the past three weeks. It has been amazing to see them grow from caterpillars to beautiful butterflies. We enjoyed saying goodbye to our butterflies.
Sunderland Big Sing
Year 3 have took part in the Sunderland Big Sing with a difference. They took part in the Big Sing from the comfort of their own seats. It was fantastic to enjoy singing with our friends and local artist. We are a big fan of the song "The Lambton Worm". We can not wait to take part again next year!
Running Around the World
We have been taking part in a challenge in school to run a mile to get around the world. We are in competition with the other classes to run as many miles around the world as we can in the summer term. We or off to a flying start and have reached Canada already!
The Railways
We have been learning about George Stephenson in our History lessons. We have found out that he was from Newcastle and he revolutionised the railways. In our History today we have looked at the advantages and disadvantages people at the time thought about the railways. We then created posters with our friends and finished our history lesson with a debate. We all agree in the end that the railways are still very important to us.
Finding North
In science we have been learning about magnets and how they are used in every day items. We now know about the north and south poles on a magnets and how they attract and repel each other. We then used a compass to help us find north using its magnet.
10 Tens Equal 100
Today in our Maths we have been learning about how many tens are in 100. We found this our through a variety of practical ways from counting steps, counting cubes in 10's and using base ten. We had great fun!
Year 3 Welcome the Caterpillars!
We had some wriggling visitors into Year 3 today. not just one or two but thirty three! We have had a delivery of thirty three caterpillars. We all gave our own caterpillar its own name and set it up in its home ready to grow. We can not wait to watch our caterpillars grown into big strong butterflies! Keep looking for updates on how they are doing.
Tie Dye
Year 3 have begun a secret project. All we can tell you is we have been learning the skill of tie dying. Keep checking for our end product!
Sports Day
Year 3 had a fantastic morning participating in their sports day. They took part in egg and spoon, long jump, vortex throw, football dribble and even archery. We are excited to see which house team came first in Key Stage 2. We are all keeping our fingers crossed.
Groundworks Week 2
Group 2 enjoyed working with Groundworks this week. They were looking at different herbs and have begun to plants a vegetable patch with Kale in. They also done some garden jobs by deheading the dead flowers and watering. Our garden is looking great!
Groundwork Week 3
What a fantastic end to our project with Groundworks. Today we have been taking some care with our Friendship Garden and then we planted some radish seeds, chard and cabbage. We then made a potato monster and placed it in a paper bag. We have to keep it in a dark place for two weeks to see if it grows hair! Thank you Groundworks we have all enjoyed being part of your project!
