Team Challenges

During our transition day we had a great time working together to complete some team challenges. We had to make sure we communicated with each other well. We discussed listening and speaking skills.

Show Racism the Red Card

Today we visited the Stadium of Light, to take part in a 'Show Racism The Red Card' workshop. We learnt about different types of racism and how this behaviour can escalate. We found out what to do if we ever witness racism or hate crime and listened to stories from professional footballers about their stories of racism. We also enjoyed a grounds tour and had the opportunity to collect a signed photograph. Look out in the Sunderland Echo to see a member of the class win a signed t-shirt from our day.

Bird Boxes

All children took part in group work to create the final outcome of our DT project- our bird boxes. They were fantastic and all children but their different wood work skills to use. Great job Year 6!

Anti Bullying Week

Year 6 had completed lots of activities linked to anti-bullying week. The theme this year was change for us and we spoke about how we can all make a change to stop bullying. We even had a class debate as to whether we thought bullying could completely end. We made our own change for us hearts. We also had great fun wearing our odd socks to raise awareness of the week.

Talking to all!

In our first week back one of our tasks was to talk to every member in our class. We played a version of bingo where we had to find other children with similarities. We discussed how we can have some similar interests but may also have different ones. We then developed our own friendship crosswords.

Countries Involved in World War Two

Using drama work and map skills, Year 6 investigated the causes of World War Two and identified the countries which were involved.

Electricity

During Science this term we have been learning about electricity. We are all now able to identify components, their symbols and how to construct a simple working circuit.

Our Class Assembly

A huge well done to all of year six for their brilliant presentation of the curriculum. We shared to our parents and carers all that we have covered so far.

Year 6 had a brilliant time at Robin Wood in Alston, take a look at the different activities they participated in!

Worry Spirals

At the end of our first week back we talked about feelings we may have when starting something new. We discussed how we can have an array of different feelings. We ended the session creating our own worry spirals and talked about how it's good to share our worries if we need to.

Wood Work Skills

Our DT project this term is to create a bird box. After research and a thorough risk assessment we had a go at some basic skills:

-measuring wood

-clamping wood

-sawing wood

-hammering a nail into wood

-sanding wood

WW2 Day

We were fortunate to be joined today by some WW2 experts. They brought with them a range of sources and artefacts including WW2 vehicles, a parachute, helmets, weapons, clothing and ration books. We learnt so much from them and had lots of our questions about WW2 answered.

All things Festive!
