Super Sculptures

After studying the art of Antony Gormley and Henry Moore, Year 2 used pipe cleaner figures to great different human poses. They then used plasticine to make their models into 3D sculptures. They worked carefully to ensure their sculptures had smooth, rounded edges like the artists they had studied.

Infant Agility

Over the last few weeks in PE,  Year 2 have been preparing for the Infant Agility competition at Oxclose. They have been developing a range of skills and qualities such as balance, coordination, pace, stamina and aim. Ten children were chosen to represent the class in the competition and they all performed excellently. Well done everyone!

World Book Day!

To celebrate World Book Day, we dressed up as different characters and created book characters out of potatoes. Everyone looked fantastic in their costumes! In the afternoon we made book reviews of our favourite books in the Key Stage One library so we could help other children choose a book they might like. Year 2 also took part in a teacher 'shelfie' quiz where they guessed which selection of books belonged to which teacher and took part in a book swap.

Finding the pulse!

As part of our music lessons, Year 2 have been practising finding the pulse in different pieces of music. We have done this in many different ways such as tapping our feet, patting our knees, clapping our hands and even with an air guitar motion!

Safer Internet Day

For Safer Internet Day, we welcomed officers from Northumbria Police to speak to the children about staying safe online and speaking to trusted adults if they feel unsafe. The children then built on this understanding in the classroom by considering what information is personal and why it shouldn't be shared. The children then made a chain of their own  trusted adults they could speak to if they felt unsure of something.

Class Assembly

Year 2 have learnt so much already this year and they loved sharing some of what we have learnt with you this week at our class assembly. Well done for presenting your learning so clearly and with confidence Year 2; we are very proud of you all!

R.N.L.I

The R.N.L.I. (Royal National Lifeboat Institution) came to talk to us about how to stay safe in and around water. We learnt lots of helpful information, like what the different colours of the flags mean and how this helps us make good choices. We also found out what the lifeguards do and what they wear so they can be easily spotted, what you should do if you ever find yourself in a difficult situation in water and how to float correctly and call for help. We learnt lots of important life saving skills and really enjoyed taking part in all the activities!

All Around The World

Kicking off our Geography unit 'All Around The World' was the fascinating country of China! The children were given some information or a picture about China and they had to share their knowledge with their peers around the class. On each table they had questions about China and they had to collect as many answers as they could from their friends. We then used this information to create a country fact-file.

Don't Tip the Ship!

For British Science Week Year 2 took part in an investigation called 'Don't Tip the Ship'. We had different sized paper boats and we were trying to find out if the size of the boat affected how many grams it would hold. Many of us predicted that the bigger the boat, the more it would hold and we were right! There was an anomaly in our results so we discussed why this might have occurred and how we could check our other results were accurate.
