Year 6 Summer Term 2017-18

Well done Year 6!

Year 6 were excellent during SATs week. They stayed cool, calm and collected throughout the assessments and we were very proud of them. As a special treat we had a fun morning on Friday with some edible treats, some sports on the field and an ice lolly to cool us down.

Super Splash Heroes

Northumbrian Water came into school to talk to us about saving water. First they did a funny assembly where the characters had to find ways of saving water then we had a workshop to discuss in more detail how much water is wasted and come up with a song or report about water wastage.

Tommy Ingberg

Since our country was Sweden, we looked at the work of surreal photographer Tommy Ingberg. His strange art photography was very intriguing and we created some work in his style using pastels and also using computer editing.

Nissan

Nissan was a really fun day out. We designed and made our own lego cars, created a production line (and had to think of ways of speeding it up) learned about training at Nissan and practised some of the skills we would need to work there. Well done to Holly who won the logo design competition and won a goodie bag.

Our Amazing Art

It was lovely to visit the school Art Exhibition to see our excellent art work displayed. We created a final self-portrait by collaging a variety of materials and textures to represent us:  the 'Class of 2018'. All the art work was very impressive and we can't wait to show our families.

Sports Day

Year 6 were excellent role models at sports day. They put 100% effort into every event from running to dribbling and jumping and we were very proud of each and every one of them. Well done to our winning team - Pine who scored the most points. The house and vice captains proudly collected the trophy.

Kanelbullar

Next we designed our own version of kanelbullar. Kanelbullar are cinnamon flavoured traditional Swedish pastries. We tried our own fillings both sweet and savoury. Our favourites were jam and the cheese and tomato.

Forbidden Corner

Forbidden Corner was a great day out as a reward for our hard work and resilience. It was such a maze finding our way round it and discovering clues along the way. There were lots of surprises and we got very wet from some of them. We all thoroughly enjoyed our day.

Float or sink?

As part of Tall Ships week we made our own ships. They had to float, have a sail, carry crew and move on their own. We used motors and propellers to make them move. There were some very successful boats which met all of the success criteria. The winners received trophies and prizes.

Frankie and Benny's

As a reward for raising lots of money from the Summer Picnic and through the Mile Run and Obstacle Run, we went to Frankie and Benny's for lunch. We were allowed to order our choice of meal from the main menu. It was a lovely afternoon out together.
