Gases

In science we are exploring states of matter and their properties. We wondered "does gas have a weight?" so we decided to set up an experiment to find out. We looked a variety of fizzy drinks, weighed them then gave the a good stir to take out all of the carbon dioxide. After we weighed again and found that the drinks had decreased in weight. This showed us that gases do have a weight! We enjoyed our investigation.

Anglo-Saxon Shields

We have begun our Design and Technology project in our class this week. We are aiming to create our very own Anglo-Saxon shield. We have begun our project by researching the different shields they had and looking at the features. We will next be going on to use these features to design our very own.

YouTube

As part of our Online Safety Day we have been exploring YouTube. We talked about what we might come across and how we can keep safe on it. We discussed profiles and talked about if we did have a profile what we would use for our profile picture. We then all created our own avatar profile picture.

Tennis

We have been practising our control skills in preparation for the Tennis Tournament. We have been practising balancing the ball on our racket and moving around in a variety of ways. We then had a go at bouncing and hitting the ball using our rackets. We are looking forward to the next three training sessions with our tennis coach.

Professor Nitrate

As a beginning to Science Week we had a visit from Professor Nitrate. She talked to us about states of matter, forces and chemical reactions. We were all involved in mini experiments and had a great time learning about science. We can not wait for our Science morning on Friday!

Year 4 Class Assembly

Well done Year 4 your performance was great! You have shared all of your learning about the Anglo-Saxons. It was great to hear your character descriptions, see your art and learn all of the amazing facts you have learnt across the term. We have lots of fantastic singers, actors and actresses in Year 4. Well Done!

Locating Countries in Europe

Today in geography we have been using atlases to locate different countries in Europe. We had to work out which way our map should be and then using the atlas find the countries. We did not realise Europe was so big!

Palm Sunday Celebrations

In our RE lesson we have been learning about Palm Sunday and the traditions in Spain. They decorate palm leaves and take them to church. We decorated our own palm leaves with different ideas about Easter and then added a chick and nest to show new life and some Easter treats. We have created fantastic Easter palm leaves.

The Creation Story

For our Religious Education this week we have been looking at how Christians believe that God created the world. We read the story together as a class and discussed what God created each day and why. We then worked in small groups to create our own representations of The Creation Story through drama. We enjoyed performing them to our friends and looking how each group interpreted the story.

The Anglo-Saxon Effect

Did you know that the Anglo-Saxons are still present in our every day lives? In fact we are all very close to one. The Anglo-Saxons were very cleaver they added different words to the end of place names so that people know what sort of town it was they were visiting. The -ton in Washington would mean that we would be a farm village! We had great fun using the Ipads and atlas to locate areas, find their name meaning and an interesting fact.

Rich and Poor

We have been historians this week in our topic lesson. As part of our topic on The Anglo-Saxons we have been looking at the lives of the rich and poor. We thought of questions that we would ask them and then researched using the Ipads and a range of text books. We were very surprised at some of the information we found.

Anglo-Saxon Shields

After researching and planning our shields. We have created our own design. We have been thinking about what what resources to create our desired effect. We have created some fantastic shields. Get ready to see them in our Class Assembly!

Science Morning

What a fantastic morning we have had travelling around Key Stage 2. We have took part in a range of different experiments. We made lava lamps with Miss Hepplewhite, volcanoes with Miss Henderson and bath bombs with Miss Kitchen. We spoke about the different reactions that were happening and if they were reversible or irreversible. It was a very messy but marvelous morning!

Year 4 Meet the Chicks

This week Year 4 enjoyed going to visit the chicks in Nursery. We placed them in a pen and watched them play. Some of us were brave to have a hold but they were full of energy.

In Year 4 we have been celebrating World Book Day. Together we all changed into our pjs and shared some of our favourite stories with the children in Year 1. Then Miss Stockport came and joined us and read the story "The Fairytale Hairdresser or How Rapunzel Got Her Prince!" We enjoyed hearing an alternative version of Rapunzel. We also enjoyed a snack and a drink. Next we drew our favourite part of the story and included speech bubbles. We have enjoyed our World Book Day celebration.

Illuminated Letters

In our Art lesson we have been looking at Anglo-Saxon illuminated letters. We have looked at them in a variety of texts and talked about their features. We then began designing our own. We sketched them out and we are now onto our final designs. Keep your eyes open for our final designs.

Computing

In our Computing lessons we have begun to develop out skills creating mind maps using the programme Purple Mash. We have been editing our fonts, altering size of writing and adding pictures to create Online Safety  mind map. We will be using our mind maps to help us create a Online Safety leaflet using the Purple Mash programme.

Jarrow Hall

What an amazing day we had at Jarrow Hall! We time traveled back to the Anglo-Saxon reign to learn more about their way of life. We worked with Victoria and she shared lots of her knowledge.

We learnt about the crime  and punishment and how justice was served. There was lots of mutilation, compensation and humiliation! We then became the Vikings and the Anglo-Saxons and recreated a battle between them where the Anglo-Saxons won! After Lunch we saw life on an the farm and learnt about all the different uses of the animals. We even had time to squeeze in a visit to a little town where we went to the town hall, shared stories and riddles around the fire. Next we tried traditional Anglo-Saxon biscuits. Most of us loved them while some of use found them a little too sweet. We have had a fantastic day and have enjoyed becoming Anglo-Saxons for the day. Thank you Victoria for a memorable day!

Investigating Area

In our Maths Investigation morning we have been exploring area. We began our investigation by creating as many shapes with the same area using cubes. We then practised drawing shapes with the same area.  It was interesting all of the different shapes we made but they all had the same area.

Anglo-Saxon Shield

After week of researching, planning, creating a method and creating our very own Anglo-Saxon shields. We have enjoyed the process and it was great to use them in our Class Assembly this week. We think you can agree from our final product that we have created some fantastic Anglo-Saxon style shields.

The Easter Story

We have been learning about the Easter Story in our RE lesson this week. We read through it as a class and then we created our own freeze frames to retell the story. We enjoyed acting and thinking about the different scenes in the Easter Story.

Easter Traditions Around the World
