Year 1 Summer Term 2017-18
Exploring Blackfell
Despite the drizzle Year 1 enjoyed exploring Blackfell and we were able to point out some of the different features our village has to offer including the post office, park and shops. Throughout the walk, the children were able to take their own photos which have been shared above.
Captain Cook Birthplace Museum
What a fantastic day we had! Year 1 enjoyed visiting the Captain Cook Birthplace Museum and learning all about him. We learnt about what his childhood was like, what life was like on board a naval ship and of course about his famous expedition to Australia. In the afternoon, we looked at a range of artefacts and had a go on some virtual reality headsets to learn about Australia. We even had time to do some aboriginal art!
Summer Disco!
Year 1 had lots of fun at the Summer Disco! There was lots of amazing dancing and singing and we loved seeing how fantastic all of our friends looked in their summer outfits. What a great night!
Investigating Artefacts
Year 1 loved handling a range of artefacts about Captain Cook and Australia. We discussed what we thought they were and what this told us. Some children were able to share what they already knew and then we thought of a range of questions we could ask and investigate further on our trip next week.
Let's Explore!
Another brilliant show from Year 1! They all worked extremely hard to learn some very tricky lines and then to perform with such confidence was amazing. Their singing was fantastic and the last song was full of emotion! You should all be incredibly proud of yourselves as Miss Stockport definitely is! Well done, everyone!
KS1 Sports Day
Wow! What a performance Year 1! You all gave it your best shot and showed a lot of determination and perseverance. It was wonderful to see so many of our family and friends getting involved and cheering on our amazing athletes! Congratulations to our winners, Willow, and a huge well done to everyone else too!
Growing Sunflowers
As part of our science topic on plants, Year 1 decided to try and grow some sunflowers of our own. We used this as a basis to look at the life cycle of a plant and consider what a plant needs to grow and survive. Everyone has enjoyed watching them grow and helping to water them regularly.
Northumbrian Water
We were all joined by Northumbrian Water who delivered an assembly and workshop about using water wisely. They gave the children some hints and tips on saving water through an interactive show where they became 'Super Splash Heroes'. Year 1 had a lot of fun and learnt a lot too!
Health Roadshow
Key Stage 1 learnt a lot from the Health Roadshow. They completed a carousel of activities with local nurses who talked to them about emotions, dental hygiene, exercise and germs.
