Year 6 Autumn Term 18-19

Blackfell's 5 R's

In our first week back we spent time reflecting on our own learning. We thought about what we could improve on during Year 6. We shared this with a friend and created some animal art work based on our improvement choice.

World War 2 Experience Day

Year 6 were joined by a range of WW2 historians who shared their knowledge with us. They brought along many artefacts including vehicles and weapons from WW2. We were able to try on and hold some of these objects. We found out about being a school boy in the war too. Year 6 also enjoyed learning about Morse code and trying to crack the codes. Thank-you to our wonderful visitors.

Take Out Maths!

Miss. Dodds' maths group really enjoyed putting there decimal place knowledge and calculation methods in to practice. They placed orders and worked out their change. Great work!

Christmas Carol Service

Year 5 and 6 gave a lovely Christmas Carol Service. We were joined by Cannon Hopper who gave some lovely words. Well done everyone.

Model Spitfires

After investigating aircraft from World War Two, Year 6 designed and made their own model Spitfires. It was great fun trying to assemble all of the different parts and we enjoyed working as a team when trying to finish them.

World War 2 Boot Camp

To start our World War 2 topic off Year 6 took part in an army style boot camp. We tried out the timed assault course, practice sit ups and had a go off dodging bombs. Our fitness was certainly put to the test!

Eden Camp

We had a fantastic visit to Eden Camp! Year 6 enjoyed visiting the different huts and learning about many different aspects of World War 2.

WW2 Topic Work

As part of our work on the Blitz, Year 6 investigated British cities that were bombed during this time.  Using map work skills, the children managed to locate cities and industrial areas that made primary targets for the Nazi bombers.  Well done Year 6!

Spectrum of Light

In Science we have been learning about light. During this lesson we found out about the Spectrum of light and how it is made up of many different colours.

Robin Wood

Year 6 had a brilliant visit to Robin Wood, Alston. They took part in so many different activities. The children gained lots of new skills and we are all very proud of them. Take a look at the different galleries to find out what we did whilst we were there.

Electricity- Conductors

During Science this week we had a go at creating a simple circuit. We then had a problem to solve whereby we needed to help the Women's Land Army fix a broken circuit using every day objects. We discussed the terms conductors and insulators and found out about symbols for drawing circuits scientifically.

Who Rule The World?

Year 6 have been learning a dance in preparation for our class assembly. We have been working with our school dance coach Lynn. It is focussed around the importance of women during WW2.

Our Class Assembly

Wow! Well done to all of Year 6 for a fantastic class assembly. From acting, to dancing, to singing you were all fantastic. We share our learning and experiences throughout our WW2 topic. Thank you to all of the parents, families and friends who came along to watch it.

Christmas Party

Year 5 and 6 had a great Christmas party. We played Snowman Wrapping, Marshmellow pong and a game of Christmas charades. We hope you all have a lovely Christmas Year 6!
