Year 6 Autumn Term 2017-18

World War 2 Portraits

To kick-start our World War two topic, we shared some excellent holiday homework. To immerse ourselves in what life would have been like for children we created some war portraits. We began by using different materials to create a camouflage background. They looked really effective.

World War 2 Artefacts

Year 6 had a great morning learning more about World War Two. History came to life through interesting guest speakers who shared their wonderful collections of artefacts. A big thank you to Mr. Carr who helped organise this brilliant morning: the children were enthused about such an important part of our history.

World War 2 Assembly

Year 6 were absolute stars during their recent class assembly about World War 2. Everybody learned their lines and delivered them beautifully. They shared much of their learning and their costumes were amazing! The girls were exhausted after the dance but everyone thoroughly enjoyed it. Well done Year 6!

The Christmas Fair

Year 6 had a great afternoon helping out at the Christmas Fair. They were all very excited to get involved in selling and interesting people with fun games and raffles. We were proud that they were excellent representatives of the school and improved their maths skills at the same time.

Christmas Party

'Tis the season to be jolly! We had a brilliant time at our Christmas Party, playing games, dancing and showing our talents. I was impressed with all the lovely singing, well-choreographed dancing, magical magic tricks and the drama! Merry Christmas everyone!

Terrific Teamwork

To help us improve our communication, co-operation and logic, we completed a series of team-building challenges. For one challenge we had to cross a 'swamp' and bring equipment with us without leaving anyone or anything behind. It required a lot of listening and thinking but we got there in the end without being eaten by crocodiles!

World War 2 Boot Camp!

As part of our World War 2 topic, we had a fantastic boot camp session to make us understand the training soldiers go through. We had an assault course where we had to work together and carry a cannon, a tug of war, practised throwing a punch and improved our fitness. We all ached the next day but it was great fun!

Being Evacuated

On Thursday 19th October, Year 6 were evacuated to Eden Camp for the day to learn more about World War 2. They all looked fantastic and we all enjoyed admiring eachother's costumes. Well done to our best dressed winners as voted for by the rest of year 6: Grace Tetchner and Louie Harris.

Children In Need

We had a fun-filled day for Children In Need, raising money in lots of different ways such as donations, the nearly new sale, selling cakes and a disco. We raised a lot of money this year thanks to many kind donations. On the afternoon we visited the disco where we enjoyed singing and dancing with our friends.

The 5Rs

During our new beginnings week we have been thinking about how we would like to improve. We looked at the 5Rs and decided which of these we will work on this year and how we do this. To remind us in class we created posters to explain the importance of reflection, resilience, relationships, risk-taking and resourcefulness.

Electrical Circuits

In science we have been learning about electricity. We used equipment to make circuits and learned the correct symbols. We practised making our components brighter/quicker and investigated what happened when we included lots of components with only one battery. The best part was experimenting with the motor.

Amazing Eden Camp

Year 6 had a fun-filled, educational day out at Eden Camp. It was interesting to visit an actual Prisoner of War camp and learn about its history. We loved all the huts but some of our favourites were the Blitz, the U-Boat, the Great Escape, the Music Hall and the Prisoner of War hut.

Christmas Dinner

Year 6 had a great time on Christmas jumper day. We all had fantastic Christmas jumpers and tshirts to showcase and really enjoyed having our delicious Christmas lunch with our friends. We had fun pulling the crackers to find out the prizes and crazy jokes that were inside them!
